Indiana sees 1st flu-related death of the season

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana state health officials say the first flu-related death of the 2015-2016 flu season has been reported.

Details about where the death occurred will not be released due to privacy laws. Officials say although the death occurred early in the flu season, influenza activity is minimal in Indiana and around the country.

People are still encouraged to get a flu vaccine. Health officials say everyone six months old and older should get a flu vaccine each year.

Officials add that people should practice the “Three Cs” to help prevent the spread of flu:

  • Clean: Properly wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water.
  • Cover: Cover your cough and sneeze into your arm or a disposable tissue.
  • Contain: Stay home from school or work when you are sick to keep your germs from spreading.
