Company recalls child bicycle trailers

(WFLA) – Child bicycle trailers manufactured by Burley Design were recalled due to a possible injury risk, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

The trailers allow cyclists to tow children while riding. The recalled trailers have the tow bar receiver on the front left side of the trailer that may separate while it appears connected posing a crash hazard. Burley Design received 35 reports of the trailers with black plastic tow bar receivers separating from the tow bars, including two incidents where children were injured.

The following seven trailer models and serial numbers are being recalled:

Cub serial number K943, Rental Cub serial number K943, D’Lite and D’Lite ST serial numbers D948 and K948, Encore serial number K942, Solo and Solo ST serial numbers D939, K939 and KK939. The trailers were manufactured from 2009 to 2015.

The trailers with aluminum tow bar receivers are not included in this recall.

About 34,000 units were sold in US and 820 units in Canada at REI, Sport Chalet, other sporting goods and bicycle stores and on Amazon.com.
