Indiana on track to meet tax amnesty collection goal

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana’s revenue agency says the state’s second tax amnesty period in the past decade is on track to at least meet its $90 million tax-collection goal.

Department of Revenue spokeswoman Amanda Stanley said Friday an exact total of the amount collected to date isn’t available yet because people have several ways to pay their past-due state taxes.

But as of Thursday, the amnesty had raked in $27.5 million in cash payments. Stanley says that amount was collected 11 days ahead the agency’s goal for reaching that benchmark.

The tax amnesty that began Sept. 15 and ends Nov. 16 is being counted on to provide $84 million for Gov. Mike Pence’s new Regional Cities program and $6 million to support Amtrak’s Hoosier State line between Indianapolis and Chicago.
