Elected officials experience job of first responder

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A group of local elected officials got an example Saturday that there’s no better teacher than experience.

The group got a chance to see what firefighters and paramedics do each day.

The day-long session is put on by the Hamilton County Firefighters Union.

“With limited budgets these days, every community is looking at how to properly distribute limited funds,” IFF Local 4416 President Tony Murray said. “Understanding how the tools and how the staffing of fire rigs really impacts the community — and how we can put our services on the street — it gives them [elected officials] a better understanding when they’re looking at those numbers.”

Elected officials from Zionsville and all across Hamilton County took part in today’s event.
