Teen boy in critical condition after mobile home fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One person was pulled from a burning mobile home on the west side of Indianapolis early Monday morning.

According to the Wayne Township Fire Department, the fire started in the 8000 block of West Washington Street around 4:30 a.m. This is near the Indianapolis International Airport.

Fire officials said the 14-year-old boy was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in critical condition. Officials said the teen was the only person inside the mobile home. A dog that was inside died.

The 14-year-old is a student at Wayne Township Schools, officials said.

Chris Parker lives next door and says his dog woke him up. He then saw firefighters pulling the boy from the home.

“Will most definitely say prayers for him,” Parker said. “I wish I could have done something. By the time I saw what was going on, I couldn’t attempt to go in. It was bad.”

Fire officials were sifting through the destroyed home hours later, searching for what caused the fire. They said damages were estimated at $30,000 and added the home had no working smoke alarm.
