Police investigating tainted candy found in Center Grove neighborhood

BARGERSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – Police are investigating after a woman said she found an item pressed inside a piece of chocolate that her child got while trick-or-treating.

According to 24-Hour News 8’s partners at the Daily Journal, the child received the candy in the Bargersville neighborhood of Harvest Grove on Saturday. That’s just off State Road 135.

The mother said they went to about 40 homes in the area. She said she found the piece of candy with the wrapper partially opened inside her child’s bag of candy. She saw a thumb print and a small item inside the candy.

Police were called and they examined the candy and found an item that looked like a pill. It tested negative for opiates, like speed or heroin, police said. Indiana State Police will do further testing.

Police ask that anyone else who may have found something strange in their candy to call police.

Bargersville police investigator Steve Byerly said they don’t want to alarm anyone, but want the public to be aware of what happened.
