Alexandria man arrested after standoff

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. (WISH) – An Alexandria man was arrested Tuesday after a standoff with sheriff’s deputies.

At approximately 9:00 Tuesday morning, Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of Shelby Street after receiving a call from a woman who stated she had been battered by her boyfriend.

When officers arrived at the residence, they found the female victim standing outside. She told deputies that 31-year old Craig A. Edwards was inside the residence and in possession of several handguns.

Authorities attempted to contact Edwards by phone and PA system. After eventually establishing contact, Edwards walked out of the residence at approximately 11:00 a.m. and surrendered without incident.

Deputies found two semi-automatic handguns in Edwards vehicle in the driveway of his residence.

Edwards was arrested and charged with Felony Strangulation, Felony Domestic Battery and Misdemeanor Interfering with a 911 Call.
