Mayor-elect Hogsett focusing on transition and future of Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Mayor-elect Joe Hogsett was in the studio on Wednesday, just a few hours after winning the mayoral race in Marion County.

He apologized for the bags under his eyes, but was excited about what the future could hold for the administration that he will lead as the next mayor of Indianapolis.

The main topic of discussion was transition as Hogsett moves into the twenty fifth floor of the City County Building.

“I am going to start today by perhaps meeting with our mayor to talk about the transition issues because it is a very short window before the first of January, reaching out to City-County Council members, so that we can hit the new year running,” said mayor-elect Joe Hogsett.

Hogsett was very clear about the first issue that would take center stage of his administration.

“Well, I want to first meet with Mayor Ballard and talk about his plans for a smooth transition. I welcome his input and obviously that of his staff,” said Hogsett. “The very first thing on day one will be convening law enforcement leadership at the federal, state and local levels so that we can talk meaningfully about tackling this increasing crime problem that the city has been experiencing.”

Hogsett will take office on Jan. 1, 2016.
