Muncie man sentenced to 81 years for attacking officers

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a Muncie man to 81 years in prison for trying to kill one police officer and severely beating another.

Delaware Circuit Judge John Feick handed down the sentence Wednesday to 34-year-old Bryan William Modglin after finding him guilty of attempted murder and battery resulting in serious bodily injury in a September bench trial.

The (Muncie) Star Press reports Modglin was convicted of trying to choke Officer Shane Finnegan in a 2013 incident and severely beating reserve Officer Richard Little following a fight at a tavern. He also was also convicted of being a habitual offender, which accounted for 30 years of his sentence.

Modglin apologized for his actions, which he attributed to his intoxication at the time.

His attorney asked for the minimum 50-year sentence.
