IMPD: Arrest made in deadly shooting of delivery driver

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – In less than 48 hours, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department made an arrest in a senseless murder. According to IMPD, Peter Hutchings and his 17-year-old girlfriend lured a delivery driver under the guise that the couple wanted Chinese food.

The two are accused of calling China King, located in the 8900 block of East 38th Street.

Sources say, Mark Miller, 27, arrived with the food shortly before 10 o’clock on Tuesday night. Once there, police believe Hutchings shot Miller. During the shooting, Miller crashed his pick-up truck into an empty apartment unit.

Detectives pronounced Miller dead on the scene. Investigators started going over evidence, and that’s when police traced a phone number used to place the last order to Hutchings. According to those close to the investigation, Hutchings and his girlfriend had used the number to place an order at China King before. This time the couple used the same number but a different address.

Officers brought the couple in for questioning and later made the arrests. It’s unclear if the two have robbed delivery drivers before.

Just last month, IMPD investigated a similar case in which the owner of China King was robbed and attacked. In the police report, Min Kai Gao told officers a group of teenagers attacked him as he tried to make a delivery to the Meadowlark apartment complex.

Gao suffered several injuries. Since Gao’s attack, China King changed the locations to which they would deliver.

Friends called Miller a dedicated drummer who spent his nights playing for a local band. During the day he delivered food to make ends meet.

Since Miller’s death, his family and friends started a GoFundMe account to pay for his funeral cost.

A court date for Hutchings and his girlfriend has not been set.
