Veterans honored at annual banquet

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Outstanding military personnel from all across Indiana were recognized on Wednesday at the annual Veteran’s Day Banquet.

The banquet is put on every year by the Veteran’s Day Council of Indianapolis.

Special awards are given for military achievement, service to veterans, veteran employment and more.

The head of the Indiana National Guard said events like this are important to preserve the legacy of military heroes before us.

“It’s a very small percentage of the population that currently serves than those who have gone before us. So, the opportunity to come together and say ‘thank you’ for what you’ve done, serving your country, serving the state of Indiana, it’s an opportunity for us,” said Major General Corey Carr.

The banquet has been an annual event for 50 years.

It was started along with the Veteran’s Day memorial service and parade, back in the 1960’s.
