Facebook working on feature similar to Snapchat

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Facebook is working on a feature similar to Snapchat that would allow people to send messages that automatically disappear after a certain amount of time.

The new feature only allows conversations to be available for an hour.

If users have a conversation with someone and come back to it an hour later, it will be gone.

To activate the new feature, users tap an hourglass icon in the top right of the chat window.

Users in the chat can enable or disable the feature at any time. Those in the specific conversation will be affected by the disappearing messages.

To turn the disappearing messages feature off, users will have to double tap on the hourglass icon in the top right of the chat window.

The new feature is similar to Snapchat’s disappearing messages.

Part of Snapchat’s disappearing message feature allows users to screenshot the conversation to save a photo of the message. This means if one user screenshots the conversation, the other user will receive a notification the conversation was saved.

It is unknown if the Facebook version will provide the same feature.

According to USA TODAY, Facebook is experimenting with the feature in France.

Nearly two years ago, Facebook reportedly tried to buy Snapchat for $3 billion, but Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel turned down the offer.

Snapchat reported it’s users were viewing more than 6 billion videos a day, whereas Facebook reported it’s users viewed more than 8 million videos daily.
