One dies in crash on I-70 in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) —  According to Indiana State police, one person has died following a multiple vehicle crash on I-70 in Henry County.

The individual, identified as Joseph Bugie of Indianapolis, died at the scene.

Indiana State Police said that the deadly accident happened at the 127 westbound mile marker and 14 vehicles were involved.  Nine semis and five passenger vehicles were in the crash.

Authorities were called to the scene just before 8:30 p.m. Friday evening.

Police say a semi carrying coal ran into the back of a multiple vehicle crash as it burst into flames.

ISP said the crash involves multiple semis and multiple passenger vehicles.

Five medical helicopters were called to the scene.   Several people were then transported to Indianapolis hospitals some of those individuals with serious injuries.

According to the Indiana State Police, all lanes are now open.

The investigation into the incident in underway, but it’s expected to be days before authorities know exactly what happened.

Several emergency crews responded responded to and assisted with the scene including the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, the New Castle Police, the Delaware County EMA and INDOT.
