Plainfield shopping center gets new name, look

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Metropolis in Plainfield officially becomes The Shops at Perry Crossing Friday.

Along with the new name, shoppers will notice 70 additional parking spots throughout the mall. Developers reconfigured parking in front of the shops from parallel parking to head-on spots.

Lighting was also a big focus in the project. There are bright lights throughout the entire mall now, not only to keep shoppers safe, but workers as well.

All of the changes are about two years in the making. That’s when Poag Shopping Centers bought Metropolis.

Poag leaders say they knew a major redevelopment needed to happen.

“We wanted to put our stamp on the shopping center. We wanted to create a sense of space where a shopper could come out and do their shopping, eat, and then also enjoy the amenities we have like the pop-jet fountain that we recently installed in Town Square and the gazebo that we’re standing that creates shade in the summer and also heat and warmth from the fireplace in the winter,” Dean Shauger, Sr. Vice President of Management & Marketing, said.

Shauger said work is not done yet. Poag Shopping Centers also plans to install Wifi at The Shops at Perry Crossing in 2016.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for Friday morning at 11. It is open to the public.

Following the ribbon-cutting, there will be three full days of activities for families at the Shops at Perry Crossing including a magicians, a tree lighting ceremony Saturday night, and the roaming cash cube.
