ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) — A judge has denied a defense request to move a Gary woman’s trial for allegedly killing an Anderson woman and trying to pass off the victim’s baby as her own.
Madison Circuit Judge Thomas Newman Jr. issued an order Thursday rejecting the move from Anderson to Lake County.
The Herald Bulletin reports defense attorney Lisa DeLey claimed in a motion that Madison County lacked venue and jurisdiction. The victim, 23-year-old Samantha Fleming, allegedly was kidnapped and taken to Lake County, where her body was found April 17.
The defendant, 37-year-old Geraldine Jones, is charged with murder and two counts of kidnapping.
Authorities say Jones posed as a state child welfare worker and lured Fleming to Lake County under the pretense that Fleming had a court hearing there.
