Law students help recent inmates with re-entry

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A group of students that are studying law to become attorneys focused their efforts on helping former inmates back into society on Sunday.

The Black Law Student Association at the IU McKinney School of Law held a holiday party and called it a ‘New Beginning Holiday Party’ for recently released inmates and their families.

Mariah McGhee, a second year law student said, “Reentry is huge, especially in the African-American community, and as a black law student association, it’s very important for us to take an active roll and a huge voice in the movement.”

The student association said the party is the first of several projects to help inmates to reintegrate into society.

Organizers said they are working on a job fair that will hopefully be held next year.
