IMPD’s “Knock and Talk” reaches out to communities

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Teams of people from different city agencies took to the streets with a goal of helping neighborhoods get the help they need.

The “Knock and Talk” program targeted the Butler-Tarkington, Twin Aire and Mars Hill neighborhoods Tuesday.

IMPD worked with neighbors to provide real answers to their concerns right away. The department’s commanders say the real time, face to face interaction with people other than officers in the communities can make a positive difference.

“We want to address quality of life issues that are related to abandoned houses for example,” said IMPD Commander David Hoffmann. “Utilities that don’t work, especially in the cold season that’s about to start. Winter obviously, (is) right around the corner.”

Other issues addressed include social services, health, street and sidewalk improvements, as well as code and zoning enforcement.
