Woman accused of burying baby in back yard, charges dropped

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – District Judge Joe Basenburg today ordered charges dropped against Ashley Wilkins.

She’s the woman charged with abuse of a corpse after the body of her newborn baby was found buried in the backyard of her home.

Judge Basenburg found that there was no probable cause for the charge since no one in the family was “outraged” about the baby being buried in the yard.

Defense attorney Jeff Deen says Wilkins was emotional over the situation.

According to court documents, the eight-pound girl was found wrapped in a plastic bag, buried in the yard.

Investigators believe the baby was stillborn.

The Mobile County District Attorney’s office is awaiting the results of an autopsy and toxicology report on the baby girl to determine if other charges will be filed.
