INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials say a police chase Thursday morning ended in a northwest side pond.

According to IMPD, two suspects stole an SUV that was warming up outside. After the victim reported it stolen, officers began looking for the vehicle.

Police say an officer spotted the car near West 71st Street and Woodland Drive. That’s when the suspects drove off and the pursuit began.

According to IMPD, the suspects bailed from the SUV and fled on foot on Marshbury Way.

Police say one suspect jumped into a retention pond near some apartments. Officers located him a short time later and called for medics to check him out.

After a few hours of looking, officers suspended the search for the second suspect because school buses were starting to pick up children in the area.

The owner of the stolen vehicle arrived to speak with police.
