Docs: Woman had THC in system during fatal Boone Co. crash

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A woman is facing charges after lab tests reveal she had THC in her system at the time of a fatal crash.

32-year-old Stephanie Shrock of Lafayette faces several charges in the Aug. 18 crash that killed 45-year-old Jacquelin Harp.

According to court documents, Shrock’s urine tests came back positive for cannabinoids. Lab results showed her blood tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol 1.0 ng/ml and Tetrahydrocannabinol-Carboxy 70.6 ng/ml.

A crash reconstructionist said that Shrock left the roadway, then overcorrected before striking Harp’s vehicle.

Shrock faces the following charges:

  • Causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance in the blood (level 4 felony)
  • Causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (level 5 felony)
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person (class A misdemeanor)
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated (class C misdemeanor)
  • Operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance or its metabolite in the body (class C misdemeanor)
  • Public intoxication (class B misdemeanor)

Shrock has bonded out of the Boone County Jail. She is due in court on Nov. 30. Trial is set for March 2016.

After the August crash, a permanent light was installed at the US 52 and State Road 47 intersection following an outcry of support for it, including a post by the Boone County Sheriff.
