Proposal would clarify what foods are ‘natural’ and ‘healthy’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A new proposal would clarify what the government considers “natural” and “healthy” food. Also, why wait for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals when you can get them right now?

Jane King was on Daybreak Tuesday morning to talk about these and other national and local business headlines.

She explained how lawmakers in D.C. introduced legislation intended to overhaul the marketing and labeling of processed foods, revising everything from the nutrition panel to the ingredients list to the use of terms like “natural” and “healthy.” The goal is for the labels to be consistent and clearly display information on calories, serving sized and important nutrients. The bill gives the government two years to come up with definitions for “healthy” and “natural.”

And for those holiday shopping deals – Wal-Mart’s discounts start on Sunday and for the first time ever, Target will offer 15 percent off everything on its website on Cyber Monday. Meanwhile, Kohls’ Black Friday sale is live and online right now.
