NEW YORK (CNN) — A newborn baby left in a nativity scene earlier this week now has a new adoptive family.

Authorities in New York say the baby’s mother won’t face any charges because she’s protected by the state’s Abandoned Infant Protection Act.

The church’s bishop says the mother returned the next day to make sure the baby had been found.

The 5 pound, 2 ounces, 17 inches-long baby is now healthy and doing well.

Members of the church say they’ll welcome the baby boy into their family.
