Amazon prepared for Cyber Monday rush

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Amazon expects this Cyber Monday to be its busiest shopping holiday ever.

Many of the items Indianapolis shoppers order Monday will come through the fulfillment center in Boone County. The Whitestown center is more than 1 million-square-feet and holds tens of millions of products.

Black Friday shopping in brick and mortar stores wasn’t quite as busy this year, as it has been in years past. Many experts believe that’s because so many people are opting to shop online instead.

Last year on Cyber Monday, customers ordered about 500 items per second on Amazon, and the company thinks that will be even higher this year.

The National Retail federation expects 121 million people to shop online Monday, and that’s down just a bit from last year. The NRF said that’s because some people have already been shopping online since Thanksgiving or Black Friday. Not everyone is waiting to shop online exclusively on Cyber Monday.

Amazon won’t just find offer deals Monday. The company is offering special deals until Dec. 5. Shoppers can find new deals every few minutes as well as “Deals of the Day” on Amazon.

Prime members can get same-day delivery in Indianapolis. Shoppers who order by noon on Monday will receive their packages by end of the day.
