LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — A police chase that stemmed from an early morning robbery ended in a serious crash in Lawrence Monday morning.
According to a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, officers were called to a McDonald’s at 79th and Fall Creek on the report of an armed robbery. No one was injured.
Around the same time, an officer spotted three people getting into a car quickly and driving away at a high rate of speed. According to police, the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle didn’t stop. Police say a chase started, and it ended in a crash near 46th and Franklin. Officials say the suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a pole. Two male suspects were thrown from their vehicle and another was trapped inside.
No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported. Officials said the suspects were awake and talking after the crash and transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital for treatment. They are currently in custody.
Police say they found a weapon that was possibly used during the armed robbery. They say they also found cash and employee belongings stolen from the McDonald’s at the scene of the crash.
