Investigators: Cigarette sparks fatal Plainfield fire

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Investigators have determined the cause of a recent fire that killed one woman in Plainfield last week.

Plainfield Fire Territory investigators and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office determined that a Nov. 27 fire in a senior citizen apartment complex was caused by a displaced cigarette.

57-year-old Linda Knowles was killed in the fire and two more were injured.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. Several residents were displaced and are just now returning.
