Man arrested for shooting at alleged thief

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Columbus police arrested a man early Sunday morning who said he shot at the vehicle of an alleged thief.

Shortly after midnight, officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of Cardinal Lane regarding attempted theft from vehicles in the area. When officers arrived they spoke with 22-year old Dylan Jones, who told them that a Hispanic male wearing a dark hat and shirt was breaking into cars. Jones said the man fled in a dark colored Volkswagen Jetta.

Jones also told the officers that he fired shots at the suspect’s vehicle as it was leaving the area.

Officers recovered a handgun from Jones’ apartment and discovered a bullet hole in the siding of a nearby occupied apartment.

Jones was arrested on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon, a felony.
