Giving Tuesday promotes giving back after busy shopping days

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – When you head online Tuesday morning you’ll likely see the hashtag #GivingTuesday somewhere.

It’s the fourth year for the social media campaign designed for people to donate to charity following Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Last year there were donations in 68 different countries. This year organizers are trying to set a Guinness World Record for the most money raised for charity in 24 hours.

A lot of charities and non-profits in Indianapolis are hoping some of the money comes their way, like FACE, a low cost spay and neuter clinic.

Along with donations, Megan Bennett and other organizers for FACE are asking people to take a photo of themselves and their pet and post it online to help spread the word.

“We do see a spike right around the holidays,” says Bennett. “That’s because people have money that they need to put toward other things, and they can’t pay for the treatment of their animals.”

If you want to research an organization you’re interested in donating to, the Better Business Bureau has set up a website to help you do that at give.org. There are many other local organizations also taking part in Giving Tuesday.
