Businesses in Speedway receive a boost during holiday event

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — Behind every business door, there was some kind of incentive to shop during “Light the Night on Main” in Speedway. Store owners said the event helped boost their business.

“There are so many people that seem surprised that there are other things going on besides the race in May. Speedway has so much more,” said Cathy McMannis with Rolling in the Dough Market and Café.

There was a lot going on Wednesday in the town that usually thrives during the racing season. Everything from holiday tram rides to special guest appearances.

“I am totally excited. It brings a lot of people here, families and kids. Shops and restaurants usually offer specials to draw people,” said Tina Wilson with DooDadz.

Mother Nature also helped out by sending a steady stream of snowfall. Santa also arrived with IndyCar driver Ed Carpenter.

To help draw people in, businesses got creative. Some offered tasty one-of-a-kinds, from holiday inspired scones to Christmas-inspired scented candles.

“We will have punch, cookies and offer 10 percent off after 5 p.m.,” said Mrs. Connie, Main Attraction Antique Mall owner.
