Indianapolis Zoo celebrates 47 years of Christmas display

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – This year marks the 47th annual Christmas at the zoo display. The zoo hopes you come make some holiday memories as you see the twinkling lights set up all over the zoo grounds.

Carla Knapp stopped by the studio to talk about this year’s beloved holiday tradition.

The festival began in 1967 and the Indianapolis Zoo became the first zoo in the United States to host a holiday light event. Since then the exhibit has expanded and more than 100,000 visitors each year.

Visitors can enjoy the display from 5 – 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays from Nov. 27 to Jan. 3, plus Dec. 21, 22, 28 and 29. The Zoo is closed on Christmas Eve and Day, New Year’s Eve and Day.
