Film festival ‘ReelAbilities’ highlights films about disabilities

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The film festival “ReelAbilities” is in Indianapolis to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities held their annual conference from Dec. 6th – 8th and showcased short films about people with disabilities, and films created by people with disabilities.

“We’re excited to provide another venue that amplifies the voice of the disability rights movement in our community. This film festival brings together artists, advocates and the public to reinforce the message that inclusion is within everyone’s ability,” said Chad Crowe, Deputy Director of the Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities and Curator of the film festival.

The conference will feature nationally recognized keynote speakers, including Hoosier native Lawrence Carter-Long.

Long has a long history of merging media, the arts community and public policy. He currently works as the Public Affairs Specialist for the National Council on Disability, an independent federal agency in Washington, D.C.
