Photographer captures images of abandoned Land of Oz theme park

BEECH MOUNTAIN, NC. (WISH) – A photographer took a trip on the yellow brick road to take some stunning pictures of the once enchanted theme park called Land of Oz.

According to Beech Mountain, the Land of Oz operated from 1970-1980. Now, it’s only available for personal tours, birthday parties and private functions.

Photographer Seph Lawless stopped by the theme park to document it for his new book called “Bizarro,” which features 10 of the most hauntingly beautiful abandoned amusement parks.

Lawless said he picked this park because it’s unique and sits hidden on top of a mountain.

“Being there was almost like entering another planet. It was surreal and completely beautiful,” shared Lawless.

Lawless is working on a much larger project called “Autopsy of America.” The project will document America’s abandoned and dead parts of the country. He hopes that he will find answers to what caused the dead parts.

Land of Oz also hosts a special weekend called Autumn at OZ where you can take a stroll down the yellow brick road and see some of the original cast perform again.
