Former Butler basketball player’s cancer diagnosis worsens

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The family of a former Butler basketball star says his condition is worsening.

Andrew Smith has been battling cancer since 2014.

In a new blog post Monday, Smith’s wife, Samantha, wrote that his Lymphoma has turned into Leukemia, and that a bone marrow transplant failed. She said that his cancer has become extremely aggressive.

“I won’t mince words; this is very, very bad news. We are worried. We are scared. We are devastated,” Samantha wrote.

Smith was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2014. His wife says he has one final treatment option left, a clinical study.

The Zionsville native played in national title games with the Bulldogs in 2010 and 2011.
