Christmas decor stolen from Ohio veteran with cancer

LIBERTY TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – James Sehon, a veteran with cancer, is very proud of the Christmas display at his home on Lucretia Drive in Liberty Township.

“Even thought we’re on a side street, we get quite a few people (coming) down,” he said. “I want the kids and that to enjoy what I put up.”

For 25 years, beginning after his wife passed away, he’s been adding to the display.

On Sunday night, for the first time since he began, a Grinch struck sometime before he flipped the switch to turn everything on. Some of the displays had been stolen, and others were destroyed.

“They take my pride. I have pride in what I do, and they’re taking that off me and I don’t like that,” Sehon said.

Losing his pride is especially heartbreaking, considering what Sehon is going through.

“He’s been very sick these last couple years with cancer and some other things going on,” said his daughter, Jennifer Deans. “He has looked forward to putting up the display all year. In fact, I think it was, you know, part of what kept him going.”

“I feel a little violated. I served my country and everything else and then you come out, you try to do something for people and what do they do? They wind up taking advantage of you or stealing from you,” Sehon said.

Deans says they filed a police report, but Sehon doesn’t expect to get those decorations back.
