INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Santa Claus is not the only one who is busy this time of year.
Monday was the busiest mail day of the year.
The United Stated Postal Service said that 612 million pieces of mail were expected to be accepted and processed.
At the Indianapolis hub, which processes parcels and packages from across the state, it was a very busy day.
In fact, they start preparing for this time of year in June, and they’ve seen a large increase in volume from last year.
“In one day, today we are going to be processing somewhere around 240,000 packages. Our highest projection day will Thursday with about 416,000 packages across our machines,” said Reggie Smith, USPS manager.
Saturday, Dec. 19 is the last day to send cards and first class mail packages for an expected Christmas arrival date. Customers can send priority mail express items up until Wednesday, Dec. 23.
