Photo of cashier’s kind gesture goes viral

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A photo taken at the Springfield Ohio Meijer store is going viral for all the right reasons.

Kimberly Grandinette snapped the photo while she and her son were checking out. She said she was so impressed by the cashier, Kristen Clark.

Grandinette and her son Paul, three, ran to the store to get groceries. While checking out, she told Clark how stressful things were at the moment because her younger son was in the hospital, and Paul’s schedule was all off. That is when Clark paid it forward.

“I’ve been through it myself with my mom, you know, around the holidays being sick,” said Clark “So, I know how that can be.”

Paul asked if he could help Clark scan coupons. She said yes and scooped up the little boy and took him behind the register. She helped him scan the items.

“It just made his day,” said Grandinette. “He was happy and that made me happy.”

Impressed by the encounter, she posted the photo to Facebook when she got home, and within a couple days it had gone viral; racking up more than 150,000 “likes”.

“Never did I expect this,” smiled Clark.

Both women say they believe the story is resonating with so many people because it’s relatable, and is a reminder of the good that is still out there.

“I hope more people will do acts of kindness because you never know what it’s going to do for their day, for their life,” said Grandinette. “You never know what situation someone is in. So, you should always do something nice for other people.”
