School threats put parent on edge

DANVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – More than 2,500 parents received a message of a possible threat on Wednesday from the Danville Community School Corporation.

It stated administrators were investigating an unconfirmed rumor surrounding a student who was planning on bringing a gun to school. DSCS released another statement after meeting with police, who found there was some credibility to the treat. As a precaution, they ended up canceling classes.

Amanda Terrell, a Danville parent, said she was glad the school took the message seriously.

“I saw what (the suspect) wrote and think it is scary. I am glad the school sent me a heads up,” Terrell said.

Terrell said she was one of many who saw the post on Facebook that mentioned the student would bring three homemade pipe bombs, three handguns and a semi automatic rifle to class. Weapons the suspect said he or she wanted to “slaughter” specific people with.

800 high school students will be given the opportunity to make up their finals on Jan. 4. School officials also decided to extend the first and second semester.
