13-year-old provides gifts to Indy kids in need

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A 13-year-old girl is dedicating her holiday season to helping those in need. She spent the last year collecting winter clothes and Christmas gifts with her friends and family, and now they are giving those gifts away.

With the help of her mother, Edericka Johnson threw a party Monday night at the Victory Temple church on the city’s northeast side. She’s only 13, but Johnson is old enough to know the toys are better off with someone else.

“What I’m taught every Sunday is you give and you give and God will bless you,” Johnson said.

So the group made some food, bought some snacks, and gave one little boy his first Christmas gift of the year: a walkie talkie.

“I’m very excited because you never know what you can get,” the boy said.

Johnson and her friends will donate whatever gifts are left throughout the holiday season. She knows some kids have had a rough year, but they shouldn’t have a rough Christmas.

“I was thinking maybe if we give them a present or something it would make them feel better,” Johnson said. “It can’t make it worse.”
