6-year-old helps people in need during the holiday season

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A local girl is giving back in a big way. Bailey Bliven is giving thousands of families free toys this Christmas.

“Mommy said that some kids didn’t get presents for Christmas. I said that I want to give presents to people who don’t get Christmas at all,” said Bailey.

Bailey Bliven came up with “Toy Take Away” last year after cleaning out her playroom. Her mom says it’s great to see her daughter making a difference.

“It makes me proud that she’s a cheerful giver and it makes her proud and she has so much fun doing it,” Robin Bliven said.

This year, Bailey is not only collecting donations but wrapping those presents as well. Bailey said, “I love wrapping I’m really good at it.”

People, who came to the event to pick up toy, were grateful.

“They got something but it’s not much so this is a great opportunity,” Doniqua Griffin said.

Jessica Shepherd said, “My nieces probably wouldn’t have had a whole lot for Christmas if anything, so the fact she can come out here and shop for them and get into the spirit.”

In October, Bailey asked her family, friends and congregation if they could donate new or used toys for kids in need. Everyone was on board and now there are over six thousand toys in this room alone.

Bailey says she’s not done. She plans to make next year’s event even bigger with possibly two locations.
