Arrest made in White Co. fatal hit-and-run crash
WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run crash that killed a White County woman and a 13-year-old girl in October.
The White County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Austin Warren, of Logansport, Monday just before 9 a.m. on an arrest warrant for two counts of failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death, which is a Level 5 Felony.
The fatal crash occurred on Oct. 11 just before 8 p.m. on County Road 800 North. Investigators said a car traveling on County Road 800 North collided with a truck that was on State Road 16.
Deborah Barkas, 48, and a female child were extricated from the vehicle and taken to IU Health White Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.
Barkas was pronounced dead at the hospital. The child, 13-year-old Hanna Ohrt, was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Ohrt died from her injuries about two weeks later.
