Coroner: Jailed gymnastic coach died by suicide

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Marion County Coroners Office released the cause of death for a jailed former gymnastic coach who was found dead in his cell at the Marion County Jail.

Marvin Sharp was found unresponsive just after 8 p.m. Sept. 20.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department believed Sharp died by suicide. The coroners office said on Monday that Sharp died of asphyxia due to suffocation and the manner of death was suicide.

Sharp, 49, was arrested in August and was being held for several counts of child molestation.
