OSSIAN, Ind. (WANE) Firefighters have been working all morning to put out a fire at an insulation factory in Ossian.
Around 6:50 a.m. Thursday, multiple fire departments responded to Energy Control, at 804 West Mill St. Energy Control manufactures insulation made from recycled materials.
Ossian Fire Chief Ben Fenstermaker said the business is housed in three separate buildings. Crews responded and found the middle building fully engulfed. He said the fire spread to the other buildings, leaving two of the three destroyed.
Energy Control Marketing Director John Baumgartner said those two buildings were used to store the insulation.
Baumgartner added no one was working when the fire started; Energy Control was closed for the holiday. He’s not sure yet what this means for employees after Christmas. Owners hope to be back up and running in about a month, but they can’t be sure until they are able to assess the extent of the damage.
It’s not clear at this time what started the fire, or if it’s suspicious.
Crews from the Ossian, Bulffton, Southwest and Union fire departments responded.
