Fire engine overturns in Greenwood

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — Four firefighters received minor injuries when a White River Township Fire Department engine overturned in Greenwood Saturday.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. on Olive Branch Road west of State Road 135.

WRTFD Chief Jeremy Pell said the engine driver tried to avoid a vehicle hugging the center line. The fire truck went off the edge of the road and overturned.

The crew was preparing rescue boats ahead of possible flooding this weekend. The boats, being hauled on a trailer behind the engine, were not damaged.

Four firefighters were taken to the hospital but were released later in the afternoon.

The fire truck was heavily damaged.

No other vehicles were involved. The firefighters were all wearing seat belts, Pell said.
