Thousands of solar panels go live in southwest Indiana

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – Thousands of solar panels sitting on a two swaths of southwest Indiana acreage have gone online.

The Terre Haute Tribune-Star reports that each array contains about 42,000 solar panels and sits on 40 to 58 acres of land.

One array is located near Shirkieville in Vigo County. The other is in nearby Clay County. The panels feed solar power into Duke Energy’s power grid.

The two sites are owned by a California company called Cypress Creek Renewables. The design and building of the arrays was done by Vaughn Industries LLC, an Ohio-based engineering and construction contractor.

The contractor hopes to build at least one additional solar panel array in nearby Sullivan County.
