Icy conditions cause collisions in northwest Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Icy conditions have sent motor vehicles careening into each other and off of highways in northwestern Indiana.

Indiana State Police Cpl. Dan Becker tells The (Munster) Times the collisions were too numerous to count Monday morning on Interstate 80/94 in Lake County but none involve serious injuries.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Lake and Porter counties until 3 p.m. CST with up to a quarter of an inch of ice possible.

The weather service also issued a freezing rain advisory for other sections of northern Indiana.

High water also has caused scattered road closures across Indiana following heavy rains. The weather service says rainfall since Saturday morning has ranged from 2 inches to more than 5 inches in central and southern Indiana.
