Rain frustrates airline schedules, anxious homeowners

NOBLESVILLE, Ind (WISH) – Wild weather created frustration for airline passengers and anxious homeowners across central Indiana Monday.

As some found joy in getting their bags from the carousel at the Indianapolis International Airport, others, including Luann Guerattaz, just wanted the chance to get out.

“So many flights have been cancelled so other flights are getting booked up that I think I can get on, but everyone else is trying to get out too,” Guerattaz said.

The Indianapolis woman is ready for Miami. “It’s gorgeous there right now, yes,” Guerattaz said. “It’s 82 and sunny.”

But bad weather across the country has her and many others stranded. “It’s been kind of frustrating,” Guerattaz said.

The weather is not just frustrating for people inside, but Hoosiers who are watching outside and bracing for the worst. “Old Mother Nature, you can’t predict her and you can’t fight her,” Noblesville resident Jim Tittle said.

Tittle lives along the White River in Noblesville. He said it’s not uncommon to see the water come close to his house.

Tittle has lived there for nearly three decades. By now, he said, getting stuff off the ground has become routine.

“We moved the chairs up and set the small stuff in them,” Tittle said.”

While the water hasn’t risen to his home, it has created an issue for some drivers. The high water closed roads, including Mill Creek and State Road 19.

As the rain moves out, passengers hope it’ll create clear skies for pilots.

“It is what it is,” Guerattaz said. “So you just have to be cool, calm and collected and try not to get too stressed out about it.”

Noblesville firefighters said no one has had to be evacuated from homes. As far as closing streets, they’ll continue to monitor roadways.
