Columbus police arrest man hour after hit-and-run crash

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Columbus police arrested a man this week after a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian.

It happened Monday night in the 1200 block of 13th Street. Police tell 24-Hour News 8’s partners at The Republic that 27-year-old Benjamin Taylor was found unresponsive around 9:17 p.m.

A witness told police a speeding vehicle was driving east on 13th Street before the crash. They said Taylor stepped out into the street in an effort to slow down the vehicle before he was hit.

Police arrested 31-year-old Benjamin “Seaun” Anderson, of Columbus, about an hour after the crash. He’s now facing a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.

Taylor was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital where he was in intensive care.
