LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A Florida man traveling in southern Lake County was saved by the actions of a state trooper after having a heart attack Monday.

State troopers say a driver pulled into their post at I-65 and State Road 2 because one of his passengers was having a heart attack.

Corporal Dan Becker went into the parking lot with a defibrillator and found 75-year-old German Rivera in the front passenger seat.

Becker couldn’t find a pulse on Rivera and used the defibrillator twice before he started breathing again.

Paramedics later arrived and took him to a hospital in Crown Point.
