BRAZIL, Ind. (AP) — A water main rupture took out water service overnight for a western Indiana city and nearby communities.

Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham says crews completed repairs Tuesday morning and restored water pressure to the city and the neighboring towns of Knightsville and Harmony.

The water system was shut down Monday evening after the main broke under U.S. 40 near the city’s water treatment plant about 15 miles east of Terre Haute.

Wyndham says crews worked through the night to replace about 15 feet of pipe. He says about 15,000 people live in the water system’s territory.

Customers were warned to boil the water before drinking or cooking with it until tests were completed.
