Columbus emergency crews respond to Wednesday evening house fire

COLUMBUS,Ind. (WISH) – Firefighters in Columbus responded to a house fire just before 9 p.m. Wednesday night.

Crews say the fire happened at a house in the 3300 block of Trestle Drive in Columbus.

When the first crew arrived on scene, they discovered smoke coming from the residence.  After entering the home, firefighters noticed flames were coming from a piano.

The fire was then quickly put out by responders.

After the fire was completely extinguished, an investigation then ensued.  It was at that point that firefighters with the Columbus Fire Department concluded that the cause of the fire was Christmas decorations coming into contact with a burning candle.

Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported as the homeowner and two pets escaped the residence unharmed.

The fire was primarily confined to the piano.  Damage to the musical instrument was heavy and has been considered a total loss.

Damage to the house has been estimated at $8,000.

In addition to the Columbus Fire Department, the Columbus Police Department and Columbus Regional Health EMS also were on scene.
