Driver uninjured after semi rolls in Ripley County

RIPLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A semi driver walked away unscathed after a dramatic crash in Ripley County Monday evening.

It happened on US 421 near Hopewell Road around 8 p.m. Preliminarily, Indiana State Police say a semi, driven by 60-year-old James Gardner Jr. of Akron, Ohio, was heading north on US 421 when for an unknown reason it ran off the side of the road.

Police say the truck then went into a ditch before rolling onto its side, causing two large metal coils it was carrying to spill. Gardner was briefly trapped in the semi before being freed. He was uninjured.

It took crews about six hours to clean up that crash.
